MACROSTIE WINERY
macrostiewinery.com
Founded by
Steve MacRostie in 1987, MacRostie Winery & Vineyards sources the best
fruit from sustainably-farmed vineyards in the Carneros appellation.
Featuring estate-bottled wines from the highly-acclaimed Wildcat Mountain
Vineyard, the MacRostie artisan portfolio includes Chardonnay, Syrah,
Pinot Noir and Merlot.
Steve
MacRostie, owner and winemaker of MacRostie Winery, lives and works in the
town of Sonoma, the heart of Carneros. He graduated with a masters degree
in enology from the University of California at Davis in 1974. Since then,
Steve’s sole profession has been that of winemaker, crafting wine from
fruit grown in Carneros, his home region. Steve makes Pinot Noir,
Chardonnay, Merlot, and Syrah. In 1998, Steve moved into a new winery in
Sonoma and planted his first estate vineyard on Wildcat Mountain in the
highlands of western Carneros. The first wines from Wildcat Mountain
Vineyard are now available.

2004 Chardonnay, Wildcat Mountain Vineyard
92 POINTS,
The Wine Spectator
"Brilliant flavors, lively and refreshing, with layers of fresh
apple, pear, nectarine and cedary oak, offering richness, depth
and concentration, all the while maintaining a sense of delicacy
and finesse. Drink now through 2009."- J.L.
Classic pale straw gold in
color, with the slightest of green highlights. Aromas of lime
zest and papaya lead to intriguing flavors of clover honey,
lemon oil, and ripe mango. Full-flavored and very rich, but with
a clean, crisp, lingering finish. Should develop nicely for
several years.
Be sure and
try all the Macrostie wines available, they are so worth it

2001
Merlot, Napa Valley, Carneros
90 POINTS
"From the Napa side, a fine Merlot that shows why Carneros has
such a well-deserved reputation for the variety. Dark and juicy,
with plum, coffee and herb flavors, this wine has rich tannins
and is very dry. It will likely improve over the next five
years." Steve Heimoff
The deep red color of the wine
prepares me for this intensely aromatic and lush Merlot.
Distinct, mouth watering scents of cocoa, cassis and dried herbs
clearly tie the wine to its origins: the vineyards of the
Carneros region. The fruit flavors are dense, and the tannins
mature – byproducts of careful winemaking and an
indication the wine will age well. I think of this as Old World
style, a classic Right Bank Bordeaux blend reflecting Carneros
terroir. A serious Merlot, the wine is rich, complex and
lasting.
